A Day to Celebrate Every Child
International Children's Day is observed in Thailand on the second Saturday of January each year. Known locally as Wan Dek (วันเด็ก), it is a day dedicated to celebrating childhood, recognising the importance of children in society and encouraging young people to be proud of who they are.
At BCIS, we embraced this special occasion with a vibrant celebration that brought together students, teachers, parents and the wider school community for a day filled with joy, creativity and cultural appreciation.
How We Celebrated
The day began with a special whole-school assembly where students from every year group gathered together. The Head of School, Mr Coleman, welcomed families and shared a message about the importance of valuing every child's unique talents and contributions.
Students then took centre stage with performances that reflected the diversity of our school community — from traditional Thai dances and songs to international music performances and poetry readings in English and Thai. The pride and confidence on display was a testament to the nurturing environment at BCIS.
The celebrations continued throughout the morning with activities across the campus, giving every child the opportunity to explore, create and connect with friends.
Activities & Highlights

The campus was transformed with colourful decorations and activity stations. Students participated in:
- Traditional Thai games and cultural workshops
- Arts and crafts stations — painting, collage and card-making
- Musical performances and sing-alongs
- Sports challenges and team-building games
- Face painting and dress-up activities
- A special Thai dessert tasting prepared by our catering team
Voices from Our Community
"Days like this remind us why we love teaching at BCIS. Seeing every child light up with joy, performing with confidence and celebrating together as a community — that's what education is really about."
— Mrs. Sarah Thompson, Deputy Head & Head of Primary
"International Children's Day is especially meaningful at a school like BCIS, where children from so many different backgrounds come together. It's a celebration of childhood itself — and a reminder that every child deserves to feel valued and heard."
— Dr Marc Coleman, Head of School
Community Spirit
Parents and family members joined the celebrations, with many participating in activities alongside their children. The event also welcomed members of the local Mae Rim community, strengthening the bonds between BCIS and our Thai neighbours.
Several parents volunteered to help organise activity stations and refreshments, embodying the collaborative spirit that makes BCIS such a special place for families.
Celebrating Childhood & Diversity
At BCIS, we believe that every child is unique and every culture enriches our community. International Children's Day gives us the opportunity to pause, celebrate and reflect on the importance of nurturing happy, confident and compassionate young people.
We look forward to many more celebrations that bring our school family together and remind us of the joy at the heart of everything we do.
